Graduate School of Medical Sciences
A partnership with the Sloan Kettering Institute

Elligibility, Application and Funding

The WCGS Training program in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology is open to pre-doctoral students at Weill Cornell Medical College and The Sloan Kettering Institute who are US citizens or permanent residents and are working on their thesis projects in Developmental and/or Stem Cell Biology. Students are typically supported during years three and four in the WCGS program, with the initial appointment starting on July 1st. Initial appointments are made for one year and can be renewed for a second year, contingent on satisfactory progress and the student’s annual report.

Students are nominated by their PhD mentor who is a participating member of the training faculty. Nomination packages are requested in June and must include two letters of support by the student’s mentor and a second faculty member, a WCGS transcript, the students CV and a description of the student’s proposed thesis project written by the student candidate. Nominations are evaluated by a committee consisting of two faculty members each from Weill Cornell and SKI and the program director.

The training program provides stipend support according to the NIH scale for T32s, and partial coverage of WCGS fees for graduate students.  In addition, funds for trainee travel ($500 per year) are available for students to attend scientific meetings for presentation of a talk or a poster.
