2019 WCGS Orientation

Welcome to Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences!

The 2019 WCSG Orientation for new students beginning their studies in Fall 2019 is on August 19 – 23, 2019.

The week-long Orientation is intended to help you get acclimated to the Weill Cornell community and meet other incoming and current students. Additionally, it provides students with important information on pre-enrollment requirements, course registration process, academic policies, and introduction of resources and services provided by the Graduate School. During the week, you will also have a lot of fun exploring the neighborhood and New York City, get to know other students, faculty and staff members.

The information on this page of the website is designed to provide you with an overview of Orientation week, as well as pre-enrollment requirements that must be completed before your arrival to Weill Cornell. As you prepare to join us in August, please read through all of the information provided here and check on a regular basis for new and updated information.

STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES

Student Health Services

All new students are required to complete the health and immunization forms before attending Orientation, enrolling for classes and working in a lab. All forms must be completed and submitted no later than July 20 to avoid any problems with registering for classes. 

Detailed information about required immunization and health forms are in the Student Health Services packet. If you have any helath-related questions or concerns, please reach out to Student Health Services directly.

HOUSING

Housing

Move-in days are:

  • Students doing summer rotations: June 29th - June 30th, 2019
  • Students starting in August: August 17th - August 18th, 2019

The housing information that you provide in the pre-enrollment online form will be provided to the WCM Housing office.

ORIENTATION

Orientation

Orientation will unofficially start the evening of Sunday, August 18th with an optional boat cruise around Manhattan. All students are required to be at Orientation on Monday, August 19th at 10:00am. The week-long 0rientation will run from Monday, August 19th through Friday, August 23rd. 

We will be meeting on the 3rd floor of the Belfer Research Building (413 E. 69th Street).

STIPEND and RENT

Payroll and Rent

Payroll

You will be paid every two weeks. Gross amounts estimated here are before any deductions are made (such as income tax and housing fees).

Students enrolling on July 1 will receive the first paycheck on July 12. The amount will be an estimated $1,577. All of your enrollment paperwork must be completed by July 5, and you must register for fall term during your first week in order to get paid on July 12. 

Students enrolling on August 19 will receive the first paycheck on September 6. It will actually cover three weeks and will be an estimated $2,365. Starting with the next paycheck, September 20, the bi-weekly gross amount will be an estimated $1,577. All of your enrollment paperwork must be completed by August 23, and you must register for fall term during your first week in order to get paid on September 6

Rent

Students living in on-campus housing are required to pay a full month’s housing rent online via the Housing Portal by August 19. You will receive an email in July with your housing assignment and instructions on how to access the portal.

Your rent for August will be prorated based on your move in date and this will be reflected in your housing fees for September to reflect the date you checked in and signed your housing agreement.

F-1 STUDENT CHECK-IN

International Student Check-In

U.S. immigration regulations state all newly-admitted F1 students are required to check-in with the Designated School Official (DSO) upon your arrival to Weill Cornell Medicine. All international students must attend the mandatory “Check-In” session during Orientation week. Failure to check-in will result in the termination of your F1 status.

You will need the following documents to complete the form:

  • Your original WCM 1-20
  • Your passport
  • Copies of the following documents in pdf format to be uploaded online:
    • Page 1 of WCM I-20
    • Passport picture page
    • F1 visa (except Canadian citizens)
    • Visa entry stamp
    • Electronic I-94 Admission record (printed AFTER your arrival in the United States)

WHO'S WHO: ENTERING CLASS of 2019

Who’s Who: Entering Class of 2019

This year will be the first time we put together a flyer/booklet of incoming students to introduce you to your fellow classmates and help us learn more about you. We hope you can answer a few questions by completing the Entering Class of 2019 online form no later than Friday, August 9th.

TITLE IX TRAINING

Title IX Training

All incoming students are required to complete an online Title IX training course ahead of the first day of classes. Please plan to allot yourself some time during orientation week – after you’ve received your CWID and password – to complete this training. All students are required to complete the Title IX training by Sunday, August 25th.
