Last Wednesday the Weill Cornell Women in Science (WiS) group hosted 24 high school girls for the event, “Overview of Research Science.” Students interested in a career in science were invited from all over the city to hear about life as a researcher with visitors from Bronx High School of Science, KIPP NYC Charter School, La Scuola D’Italia G. Marconi, and the Fieldston School.

At yesterday's inaugural Three Minute Thesis® Competition, the event featured ten 3-minute presentations by Weill Cornell Graduate School and Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School PhD students. The superb quality of the presentations reflected the high quality of research and outstanding communication skills of current students from both institutions. Now, investigators from Weill Cornell Medicine have discovered precisely how this happens, supporting a century-old hypothesis known as the seed and soil theory of metastasis.

"I see a special synergy between our programs in New York City and on our Ithaca campus," stated Elizabeth Garrett, Cornell University’s 13th president to a fervent crowd of 350. President Garrett illuminated towards a future of greater collaboration at her Sept. 21 introduction to Weill Cornell Medical College. President Garrett, who was inaugurated on Sept. 18, spoke to administrators, faculty and students at a reception at the Belfer Research Building on how she believes deeper relationships between Ithaca and New York City [will] bring "unprecedented level[s] of excellence."

Weill Cornell Graduate School is planning a Teacher’s Workshop on October 17th for middle and high school teachers who want to bring science to the classroom.

For the last 12 years or more the Grad School has fielded a summer softball team, "Isotopes", that competed in a Zog Sports league. 

This past summer the "Isotopes" managed to win in their league, going 7-1 and clinching the championship game by a score of 13-5 on Randall's Island.
