About the Du Vigneaud Symposium

The annual symposium was established to honor the accomplishments of Dr. Vincent du Vigneaud, former chair of the Department of Biochemistry at the Medical College, and recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The du Vigneaud Symposium is organized entirely by the graduate students and highlights their work. The graduate student body chooses the keynote speaker each year. The du Vigneaud Symposium has now been running for over 30 years.

Poster Session Format

There will be 2 identical poster sessions time slots, morning and afternoon. Students presenting in both poster sessions will be evaluated by participating faculty and post-docs.

Participation Benefits

The du Vigneaud Symposium represents a unique opportunity to present your research to your peers throughout the graduate school and to receive evaluation and comments from faculty members. Symposium participants in the poster session and talks receive valuable written responses from 2-3 faculty members in relevant fields. The best eligible posters and talks, as decided by faculty evaluations, will be recognized at the symposium reception and at Commencement. All presenters receive a gift for their participation.

Talk/Poster Differentiation

There is limited availability for oral presentations. Talks are generally reserved for graduate students further along in their research (upper-years). Students are asked not to give more than one oral presentation at the symposium during their graduate school career. Aspiring oral presenters are encouraged to have their PI or other senior lab members in attendance at their talk. Upperclassmen are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts for the oral presentation sessions. The poster session has essentially unlimited availability, and is not subject to the restrictions of the oral presentation sessions.

First-Year Presentation

First years are encouraged to present! The best first year poster will be recognized at the symposium reception. Regardless of the results from your rotation project, presenting at du Vigneaud is a great way to practice your presentation skills.  Please note: first year pharmacology students are required to participate in the symposium.

Outside Students

Non-WCGS students are welcome to present at the poster session. However, submissions from students not matriculated in the Weill Cornell Graduate Program are not eligible to receive recognition for their poster presentation and faculty evaluation of your poster is not guaranteed.
