Career Development Awards and Individual Honors
- Dr. Lukas Dow and Dr. Katherine Hajjar have each been selected to receive Daedalus Fund for Innovation awards for their projects "Selective TNKS2 Inhibition as a Collateral Vulnerability in Colorectal Cancer” (PI: Dow) and “Development of Novel Annexin A2 Antibodies as First-in-Class Therapeutic for Diabetic Retinopathy” (PI: Hajjar). The award is described as “a pioneering Weill Cornell Medicine program that helps advance promising applied and translational research projects and emerging technologies that have commercial potential.” Daedalus Fund Supports 15 Investigators
- Dr. Lorenz Studer (CDB), was awarded the 2017 Ogawa-Yamanaka Stem Cell Prize. Dr. Studer was also recognized for his innovative research and contributions to the scientific community when he was named a 2015 MacArthur Fellow.
- Dr. Mary Baylies (CDB), who received the 2017 Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring Award. This annual award honors "a WCGS faculty member who has distinguished her/himself in teaching and/or mentoring of students, postdocs, and/or faculty."
- In May 2017, scientists convened at the Zuckerman Research Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering to celebrate the pioneering and vast accomplishments of structural biologist Dr. Dinshaw Patel (BSB) on the occasion of his 75th birthday. Dr. Patel is known worldwide for his many contributions to our understanding of how important biological molecules function, by way of decoding their structure. - Dr. David Lyden (CDB), along with two other researchers, received a $600,000 grant from the Sohn Conference Foundation to advance their investigation into how cancer spreads in children. - Dr. Wen Shen (CDB) - recipient of the the Irma T. Hirschl/Monique Weill-Caulier Trust Career Scientist Award
- Drs Scott Blanchard (PBSB/BSB) and John Moore (IMP) - recipients of The Siegel Family Award for Outstanding Medical Research Physician-Scientist Award
- Dr. Olga Boudker (PBSB/BSB) - recepient of the Biophysical Society's Michael and Kate Bárány Award for Young Investigators
- Dr. Marco Seandel (CDB) - reciptient of the 2016 Irma T. Hirschl/ Monique Weill-Caulier Trust Award.
- Dr. Christopher Barbieri (CDB) - appointed to the American Urological Association Research Council's Research Grants and Investigator Support Committee for a two-year term.
- Dr. Lewis C. Cantley (CDB/BSB) - awarded the 2016 Wolf Prize in Medicine from the Wolf Foundation for his groundbreaking discovery of a family of enzymes that are fundamental to understanding diabetes and cancer.
WEILL CORNELL MEDICINE FACULTY NAMED 'MOST INFLUENTIAL' RESEARCHERS
Two out of four professors from BCMB have been named to a list of the most influential scientific minds of 2015. The list — based on statistics maintained by Thomson Reuters — reflects the most prolific researchers in their respective fields of science.
The investigators named to the prestigious list were considered by the editors to be "a special subset of 'hot' researchers whose very recent work has won distinction in the form of citations… they are scientists who have won acclaim and approval within a key population: their peers."
