Tri-Institutional Women in Science Mixer

Over 70 men and women from Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell, and Rockefeller University sipped on wine and tested their luck at trivia for the Tri-Institutional Women in Science Mixer on May 2nd at Rockefeller’s faculty club. The event, organized by women in science groups from the three institutions, was the result of months of planning and had the goal of fostering connections between postdocs and students.

The event started with human bingo and ended with women in science-themed trivia. The winners, a team of graduate students from Weill Cornell, were awarded a $25 gift card and the honor of knowing the research done by 11 of 17 famous female scientists.  For example, they knew that Virginia Apgar is celebrated for developing a score to evaluate newborn baby fitness.

The three Women in Science groups, formally known as Weill Cornell Women in Science, Gerstner-Sloan Kettering Women in Science, and Rockefeller’s WISeR, are hoping to plan this event annually and double the turnout for next year.

Graduate students and post-docs from the three institutions mingle.

The spring-themed event was held in Rockefeller’s Faculty Club.

PA students from Weill Cornell were hard at work matching female scientists with their research to win the trivia.
